The Email device allows you to send the HL7 message to recipients via email. The window is divided into two sections: Server Settings and Device Settings.

Server settings

Set the following options in the Server Settings:

• Administrator Email Address: These are the email addresses to which the device you send. You can specify multiple email address; separate each address with a semi-colon ( ; ).

• SMTP Server: The SMTP server address of the sending email server.
• From Address: The email address the message should come from.
• Username: The username associated with the From address.
• Password: The password to use with the specified Usernamei.
• Enable SSL: Check this box to enable SSL encryption on the email. Remember, secure information (such as passwords and PHI) is vulnerable without SSL encryption.

Device settings

Set the following options in the Device Settings:

• Max Send Retries: This value sets the number of times the device will attempt to send the email upon failure.
• Wait between retries: This value sets the time, in minutes, the device will wait after a failed message send attempt before trying to send the email again.

Testing the device

Once you have set the Server and Device settings, click Send Test Email. The device will send a sample email using the supplied information so you can test the device setup. Any failures will be reported either in an on-screen popup or in a device error log; use this information to adjust the setting values as needed.
